windows vista failing boot

I've been trying to get Windows Vista Beta 2 to install on my desktop however I can't seem to coax it into working with all i've tried. I'm running a MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard with a nForce 7800 GT graphics card with 3 SATA drives. For some reason I can not boot from the DVD if I place it in my drive, instead it just suddenly resets my system. If i try to install it from WinXP it will do whatever it needs to in windows reboot then when it tries to read the drive afterwards it just suddenly reboots again without any notice. This forces me about 100% of the time to launch the recovery console off my XP disc to repair the MBR and boot sector before I can get back to Windows XP.
Specs: MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard eVGA geForce 7800 GT 1 GB DDR400 ram AMD Athlon 64 3200+ USB-External Memorex DVD-/+ RW burner 3 SATA drives (Mix of WD and Seagate)
I did check the Upgrade Advisor and it stated that the "NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management" requires me to install them manually but says they exist but if its required to install, how do i give it to Vista before it begins it's install? Could this just be a case of a missing driver or am I actually sitting on some incompatible hardware for this beta?

I'm running Windows XP MCE 2005, the most recent OEM kit.

You may need to use an internal DVD-rom instead. I think Vista loses access to your USB dvd-rw drive when setup starts.
Try this to confirm it: If you run Vista setup from within Windows, after it reboots but before it loads (before the moving progress bar) take out the installation dvd. You should be able to progress further through setup until it needs the disc.

I've actually turned off the drive all together after running the install in Windows to attempt to see if that was the problem. Normally in windows, if the drive or install disc isn't there, it should come up with a boot menu of sorts but for some reason it just reset without any other notice. I'll see if I can rig some sort of IDE connection to an internal unit tonight. I don't have one in the PC itself due to a problem with the power supply sticks into the space where my CD/DVD drives should sit.
